Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Robert M — 19 Nov 2008
In my opinion, this This is the greatest historical epic ever made. Kubrick was one of the best at studying films and reading books, combining the two, and making something that is unlike anything before, during, or after it was made.
Following Redmond Barry on his road to becoming the man Barry Lyndon is one of the most amazing journeys I have ever experienced while watching a character grow in a film. Fascinating, mesmerizing, easily some of the most beautiful images and photographs ever shot on a camera while telling a story.
The design, the meticulous detail, the effort, as a work of art in dramatic form this is definitely one of the best films ever made. And in my opinion, it is not only Kubrick's most unknown and most underestimated project, it is his very best.
An absolute masterpiece.
