Review of Attenberg (2010) by Peter F — 23 Jul 2012
Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth) isn't the only Greek director that's putting his country into arthouse theaters. Athina Rachel Tsangari's somberly quirky debut, looks at sexuality, social commentary, and generation gaps, while in the guise of a bizarre coming-of-age story.
The minimalist regard to both acting and cinematography are certain to be familiar to those that saw Dogtooth, but Attenberg has enough ingenuity towards it for it to have it's own identity, and it's decidedly more optimistic than that film.
It's movies like this that really justify the term Lynchian.
