Review of All About Eve (1950) by Ricardo G — 18 Nov 2008
I have a huge love for films such as this. I am not sure why, this antiquated feelings and this old-fashioned thoughts of mine are ever so present and they extend to these past films too. A simple film in essence, but what a film.
Nothing for granted, there is a sense of having everything right, compare this with the other lower tier films of its era and you can see why this is great and those are either mediocre or lower, this was done right and you can only have it right.
Right meaning maybe either control of acting and emotions, not overdone. Or, it can be sense of pacing and style, never campy or anything. That's not to say camp is bad, but to be part of this, you follow rules, to be part of the Golden Age, there is a standard not of quality, but stereotype and this firs that mould perfect.
