Review of Ajami (2009) by Jie A — 25 Sep 2009
Directed by Scandar Copti (a Jew), and Yaron Shani (a Palestinian). You don't see that every day. Another thing you don't see every day is a movie so real and so powerful. The entire cast is made up of non actors, just everyday people living in Palestine and Israel, including the ghettos of Ajami.
Apparently the directors tapped into the actors psyches and put them in situations that they've been in real life. This was done for each individual moment of the film. So, not only is this movie based on very real happenings, it's made even more authentic with actual people that lived it; a very unique way of telling such a provocative and honest story.
