Review of 9 Songs (2004) by David N — 25 Feb 2009
Unsimulated sex in legitimate films is one of my favourite things, right after puppies and just before a good piece of tiramisu. The sex is the most engaging aspect of "9 Songs," an undercooked relationship drama from a director I admire featuring terrible performances from a lot of bands I enjoy.
The two lovers have empty spaces where their personalities should be, but once they strip and get down to it, the intimacy and erotic energy is spellbinding. The rest of the movie, despite its intriguing blend of concert footage and love story, is rather punchless.
