Review of 31 (2016) by Lance B — 31 Aug 2016
Fan of the classic slasher films of the 70s and 80s? If so, this is the film for you! Mr. Zombie once again pays homage to films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with this brutal in your face thrill ride.
The kills within the film are as realistic as it gets, the characters are quite believable, and the story is phonominal. There are some scenes that are "uncalled for", as they are just sex then again this is one of the tropes of the slasher genre.
The films cinematography is amazing, and makes you feel nervous and clostrophobic during the killing scenes, further enhancing the realism to the viewer. Zombie also uses scenes filmed on a Super 8 camera with an artistic effect as seen in his cult classic The Devil's Rejects.
This film has many homages to Rejects, which is a fan favorite among Zombie's fan base. That being said this movie was made by the fans for the fans. If you have enjoyed any of Zombie's other films, this is definitely something you will love!
