Review of You Are the Apple of My Eye (2011) by Tony V — 02 Dec 2011
Thank you my Apple of my Eye for taking me to see your movie. It was very interesting to see this movieand I'm glad I got to see it in theaters.
A Taiwanese romantic comedy based on the director's real life and book of the same title. The movie starts off well in the high school setting, as we can all nostalgically relate back to our own times and draw parallels. Unfortunately, the movie is blighted by the confusing fight scene which the director claims to have happened in real life, but nevertheless feels strange and disjointed within the movie itself.
It takes a while for the movie to return to its charm after the "interruption". The comedy is fresh however at times relying too much on "masturbation comedy". The story itself is also refreshing though the usual cliches do make an appearance such as the girl giving the boy a glove scene.
Has done impressively well in Taiwan, and I expect it to make a good showing over Asia as well.
