Review of Workingman's Death (2005) by Dave S — 19 Sep 2007
I saw this movie at the film festival last year. Not sure if it's out on video, but if you ever get the chance to see it, I would recommend it. It's a documentary about the working conditions of people all over the world, from a coal mine in Ukraine, a slaughterhouse in Nigeria, a sulphur mine in Malaysia, and shipbreaking yard in India.
The movie is real and unadorned with commentary or soaring music or other cinematic effects. It simply follows real people along on their jobs, and the results will change the way you think of work and your own job.
Ultimately it's a movie about the lengths that people will go to to make a living. Powerful and moving.
