Review of Winter Passing (2006) by Ryan G — 13 Feb 2008
Zooey Deschanel usually plays best friends or love interests of the protagonist - like in "Big Trouble", "Failure to Launch" and "All The Real Girls" - and usually saves the movies in these watchable supporting roles.
Here, she plays the lead character, in what is quite possibly one of the best character driven films in a long time. She plays a women who returns to her father - a reclusive writer ala J.D. Salinger - to secure the rights to the love letters he wrote to his now deceased ex-wife.
Will Ferrell bumbles a bit in his supporting role, but he makes up for it in the second half. Great film.
