Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by Carl R — 25 May 2009
I can imagine that many would see this as a dull 'arthouse' movie with little action or diversion. It is not the Hollywood ball breaker nor the über cool lifestyle film generally squinked out by Americas indie scene (the coming of age films like brick or Juno, the road trips of little miss sunshine (not US) or into the wild.
.. This is in fact a lesson in the subtlety of human life. Cinematography that captures any dreamy travelling daydream you ever had, the drama of life that can come of a blown tyre or being on your last pennies.
Michelle Williams star has gain credibilty (unpredictably I'd say) since her shady days on the creek. This is beautiful and desperately depressing all at once. I don't care if you hate it, that's how much I love this film.
