Review of Viva Zapata! (1952) by Richard G — 22 Apr 2008
Gosh Marlon Brando and Elia Kazan made the three great films, and this one to me is the most visceral. It has, for me, one of the proudest scenes in all cinema history, and those who have seen it will agree.
When Zapata or rather Brando is arrested the first time, and the procession of men that casually ambush the officers. Alex North's music is spot on, and so is Kazan's direction. Tremendous film in every respect!! More people should see it!! Film classes should show it!!! Professors don't know anything sometimes.
