Review of Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010) by Colton D — 16 Apr 2011
A man in northern Thailand doesn't have much time left in his life. Towards the end, he is greeted by the ghost of his dead wife, and the return of his son, a hairy beast with red eyes from the jungle.
The movie is filled with out of body experiences, recollections of past lives or possibly parallel lives, in a dreamlike style where you are not quite aware of what 'time' or what 'space' everything is supposed to take place. It's one you can't exactly wrap your mind around, but it does come back to haunt you. Not scary with ghost stories, but subconsciously beautiful and bizarre. Plus you get a talking catfish sex scene with a princess, so beat that, other surrealists!
