Review of The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights (2009) by Reed W — 10 Mar 2010
Wow. Quite possibly the most haunting film I've ever seen. The structure of the film itself is nothing new or special, but it's the actual substance and character of Jack and Meg White that is so enthralling.
The documentary, centering on The White Stripes Canadian tour, doesn't really sound like an entertaining premise, but the way the band plays in small towns and unconventional locations (bowling alleys, small cafes, even a boat) makes it really feel special and unique.
The film ends with quite possibly the most beautiful and real moment of any film I can remember. The actual concert scenes are mesmerizing. Whether your a fan of their music or not, the film will allow you to see true artistry for the sake of music and music alone.
Definitely an experience.
