Review of The War Tapes (2006) by Lee T — 24 Jun 2007
Absolutely incredible. What a great idea: give three National Guardsmen video cameras and have them film their tour of duty in Iraq. The results are an unflinching, brutual, humorous, and touching look at the state of Iraq, and the soldiers who are fighting there.
Nothing feels particulary sensored or sanitized. It's political, but not made so by the filmmakers. The soldiers speak their minds and what do you know, they don't appreciate escorting Haliburton in and out of hotzones and not having the proper vehicles to get their job done.
Absolutely brilliant on all fronts.
