Review of The U.S. vs. John Lennon (2006) by Sara C — 30 Sep 2006
Now, Lennon's life and death were well before my time but that didn't stop me from going to see the US vs. John Lennon at a midnight showing and thoroughly enjoying the experience. More a documentary than a movie, this film offers a candid view of Lennon's life after the Beatles, his anti-war movement, and his struggles to stay in the US. Hearing thoughts and memories from his own wife gave the experience a bit of a kick and a lot more meaning, as did the plethora of Lennon songs that played throughout the film. Of course, and this is no spoiler, the film ends with Lennon's assassination, and the sound of gunshots echoed in the theatre as all went absolutely silent. It was an incredibly powerful and painful moment.
I cried.
"Imagine all the people sharing all the world. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us, and the world will live as one...".
~ John Lennon, Imagine.
