Review of The Unloved (2009) by Matt C — 04 May 2011
Not a comfortable watch then, but really, really worth the effort. Morton may at times result to debut director swirls but for the most part these feel like visual flourishes that enhance the film rather than detract from the main story.
Almost nothing though could drag you away from the central performance by Molly Windsor. An awkward almost apologetic child, she is completely heartbreaking as she is passed from pillar to post within child services.
All in all a powerful film from Morton and hopefully the start of a great career behind the camera, this is certainly a story that will stay with you.
