Review of The Ritz (1976) by Ceph J — 26 Jul 2011
You can call this one a dog which is surprising since it's based on a play by renowned playwright Terrence NcNally. What I disliked most was the stereotyping of both gays and straights, and Italian mobster who seem to be stupid.
There's no sex or nudity in bathhouses which is incredible. The humor is kitchen sink stuff and the actors seem to be playing to the camera. The only redeeming features are the witty dialogue and watching F.
Murray Abraham and Treat Williams try comedy. Alas, Rita Moreno overacts and Jack Weston is irritating. I may be too harsh since movie is about 40 years old but I still can't fathom how, even then, an audience could like it.
