Review of The Leech Woman (1960) by Tim S — 16 Nov 2013
I don't think I'd call The Leech Woman one of the worst movies ever made, but I'd certainly call it one of the silliest. It actually reminded me a lot of Tales From the Crypt, but in a long and drawn out way.
The actual plot of the movie (what they put on the poster) doesn't actually begin until about an hour into the movie, and it winds down quickly before it can even be intriguing. The old age make-up on Coleen Gray is absolutely laughable, and I would have preferred it if they had just cast an older woman instead.
It would have made much more sense and probably wouldn't have been as silly. Don't get me wrong though. This is definitely campy and not all that great, but there are elements at play that could have made for a decent B movie had they just worked with them a bit more before shooting it.
Thankfully the crew at Mystery Science Theater 3000 did a nice riffing on this one and made it much more entertaining than it really is.
