Review of The Golden Era (2014) by Ws W — 26 Sep 2015
Unlike it's title, the movie for sure doesn't live up to it's title's expectations. The slow paced biography about one of China's most famous female novelist does not manage to shine brightly given it harps to much on her love life rather than showcasing her talent and inspiration.
While Ann failed in showcasing Xiao Hong's career or rather talent, the visual and the cinematography is beautiful ecstatically. however the sloppy cuts and the constant back and forth era jumping as if we are teleported randomly into the writers life is uncalled for.
This definitely is not one of Ann Hui's golden era.
