Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Charles P — 14 Apr 2014
To witness "The Birth of a Nation" is to witness the birth of moviemaking. The blaring protests regarding the exaltation of the Ku Klux Klan and the savage portrayal of black men are merited certainly, but for any lover of cinema, to ignore the film's achievements is an impossible task.
I recognize the paradoxical racism, and I recognize its place in history.
