Review of The Arbor (2010) by Brandon P — 02 Apr 2011
An immensely powerful film telling the story of Andrea Dunbar, the writer of Rita, Sue and Bob too, and the legacy she left for her kids. This is done by having actors lip synching to real testimonies of the people involved. It paints a picture of poverty and despair that has only got worse as heroin and crack has replaced alcohol as the drug of choice. It doesn't take sides and shows the vicious cycle that people can fall into through little fault of their own, and also the devastating consequences that can follow.
This is one of the films of the year for me.
