Review of Sweetgrass (2009) by Michael H — 21 Jan 2010
If you're expecting to see a movie that in anyway romanticizes the cowboy-- sheepboy in this context :)-- you would be looking in the wrong place. This movie does the opposite showing us *very* stressed out and uncharming cowboys that at points hated the animals they were herding. there is very little of the spiritual aspects you'd want from a movie about a long trip into the mountains, and all about a dirty job that has to get done that these guys don't really want to do.
So it's a tough subject to handle and props to the filmmaker for trying, but not even they could make interesting what was obviously not interesting for the subjects of the movie. the movie was based on the premise that this was the last ride into the mountains before the public lands were closed for grazing, but in the end you think, so what? no one wanted to go up there anyway.
