Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Cassidy N — 07 Dec 2008
I have to say I'm pretty surprised how much I liked this movie. It's a definite western, but it's as if the Japanese had migrated to the west coast long before the Europeans did, which means there's a combination of six shooters, cowboys, and saloons styled in Japanese architecture.
Everyone has thick Japanese accents, but they're speaking English and they're all using western style cliches, which makes it all the more enjoyable when you catch them. The gun fights are very reminiscent of classic martial art fight scenes (except with guns, obviously), and there's still even a little sword play too.
Overall, it's not a mind-blowing movie, but it's definitely worth the watch. I mean, if you like kung-fu westerns, of course.
