Review of Submarine (2011) by Maximilian H — 18 Nov 2011
As of this moment, right now, this is my favorite film of 2011. You know how so many films tried, and utterly failed, to capture the feeling of "Rushmore"? "Submarine" not only nailed that elusive, effusive feeling, but then blazed ahead and created something new, something wonderful, by not just aping Anderson but building atop the quite sturdy blocks that Anderson had already constructed.
Perfect casting, wonderful soundtrack (from the lead Arctic Monkey), poetic imagery, wonderful dialog, masterful mise-en-scene. See this movie. Now.
