Review of Submarine (2011) by Gunpowder B — 08 Dec 2014
It's hard to relate to characters in movies. They are often too unreal, too beautiful, too intelligent, or just too perfect. I cannot relate to Oliver Tate, he is a fifteen year old boy monitoring his parents sex habits and trying to win a girl as well as lose his virgininty.
However Oliver Tate provides insight to a rather shallow generation of people trying to survive. "Most people think of themselves as individuals; that's there no one else on the planet like them.
This thought motivates them to get out of bed, eat food, and walk around like nothing's wrong." There is nothing like a slap from a fifteen year old making you rethink your reasons for living.
Not to mention the original soundtrack from Alex Turner who rips your heart apart and gives you hope at the same time. If that doesn't impress you, I don't know what will.
