Review of Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002) by Chris M — 10 Oct 2007
This is a film about a group of studio musicians called The Funk Brothers, who played on the Motown recordings from the late 50's until the early 70's and how they were the sound behind more #1. Hits than Elvis, The Beatles, The Beach Boys & The Rolling Stones combined.
As Motown gained in popularity, making star after star with Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye etc... these great musicians were virtually forgotten, the contribution they have made gone unacknowledged.
They were the sound of Motown, they are The Funk Brothers.
