Review of Songcatcher (2001) by Stuart M — 27 Apr 2008
This was a good film. It was almost like a dramatized documentary about a musical doctor who collected old ballads in the mountains of North Carolina. As the story unfolded, you could see how the original songs from the British Isles had morphed in to the mountain songs of 1900 or so, and how they would go on to be other forms of American music.
All this and a story of a lifestyle under threat, a couple of love stories, and all the time, the actual music was itself the major star of the film. Now Iâ??ll go and buy the soundtrack!
