Review of Somewhere (2010) by Matthew H — 05 Jun 2011
Sofia Coppola once again captures loneliness similar to that of Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette in this film. Let the cinematic beauty of this speak to you. I love how Coppola uses mise en scene to tell her story rather than relying too much on conversation like most mainstream Hollywood films.
I really enjoyed watching Elle Fanning work her little dorky preteen charm; it just seemed so natural. This feels more like a journey than a film. That's something I really like about it. Just watch as Stephen Dorff's character finds love and matures in this hour and a half of good cinema.
