Review of Solo (2013) by Nikolai H — 02 Aug 2017
Well, it's definitely better than 8% like the ratings suggest, but it's not great. For a slasher, it's better than average. Good cinematography, good eerie atmosphere, suspenseful, thin but reasonable plot.
But as with most slashers, I really wish they relied less on the lead making stupid decisions. She's not the dumbest lead I've ever seen in a slasher, and she has some creative ideas which keep things interesting, but there are definitely a lot of "why on earth would you DO that?" moments.
It's mostly enjoyable and a fun watch at night, but then the resolution intensified that feeling of "there's an obvious solution so why doesn't she see it?" and left me feeling a bit annoyed.
But hey. I'm usually left a bit disappointed with slashers, and this gets a lot of great ratings on Shudder by people who love this kind of thing.
