Review of Revenge: A Love Story (2010) by Amy H — 19 Jul 2012
Brutal Hong Kong serial killer thriller which achieves the sophisticated slickness that usually only the South Koreans do so well. Using a non-linear narrative, like Irreversible it manipulates the viewer's sympathies and emotions and twists them amongst the supposed heroes and/or villains. I adore being manipulated by a filmmaker like this and hence this film stands above the majority of South East Asian thrillers that have swarmed me over the last decade.
For fans of Oldboy, I Saw The Devil and Memories Of Murder. Strong stomach necessary. You have been warned.
