Review of Red Rock West (1993) by Sv G — 02 May 2008
This little sleeper from back in 93 was such a great surprise. I belong to a movie discussion group and this was the selection for this month and what a treat I didn't even know was out there. It's a blend of old fashioned Noir mixed up with some dark comedy and also has a feel of a western although this takes place in modern times.
Cage at his best in this one plays a down and out veteran that goes to the city of Red Rock to get a job promised by a friend - but instead finds himself accidentally mixed up in the middle of murder and blackmail & one bastardly hit-man played delishiously by Dennis Hopper.
Laura Flynn Boyle in a great role for her as well. The joke here is Cage no matter how many times he leaves Red Rock finds himself returning again and again as the plot just continues to thicken.
