Review of Quilombo (1984) by Bruno L — 22 Mar 2009
Good Movie be sure and read Ebert's review. Very interesting to see the point of view of the free slaves in Brazil in 1600 and 1700 fighting for their continued freedom. I would have like the movie more if they had not interspersed the film with modern Brazilian popular music. It just did not fit in. I enjoyed the story characters and costumers were fantastic. The Dancing singing and staging of the dancing in the Brazilian town was incredible. the story/plot seemed a little over romanticized toward the side of the oppressed.( I guess for the Capoeira crowd in Brazil).
Highly Recommended.!! A very unusual and interesting historical drama set in the north east of brazil. Pernambucu. four stars.
