Review of Pépé le Moko (1937) by Ben W — 22 May 2009
Jean Gabin gives a great performance in the title role, Pepe Le Moko. He's a wanted French criminal who's been hiding in the Casbah in Algiers amongst the crowded, byzantine streets and his numerous loyal criminal allies within the district (which makes finding and arresting him there difficult).
All's well until he falls in love. One of the French film classics of the 1930's.
