Review of Parinda (1989) by Cezz Khan C — 06 Sep 2008
The first ever realistic film about gangs in Bombay (now Mumbai). Kishen (Jackie Shroff) works as the muscle for gangster Ana (Nana Patekar). When Kishen's younger brother Karan (Anil Kapoor) arrives back from the States, Kishen finds it hard to hide the truth about his life.
Matters get worse as Karan's best friend Inspector Prakash is assassinated by Ana's gang. Eventually forcing both brothers against one another. This is a very realistic and intense portrayal of crime and inner city life in India's underbelly.
All the cast does an amazing job and Vidhu Vinod Chopra does a wonderful job as director. A masterpiece of Indian cinema.
