Review of Paperhouse (1988) by Sanjid P — 06 Jul 2009
The idea of a girl manipulating a dream world with her drawings and also connecting with and affecting the life of a boy she's never actually met, is truly fascinating. The drawing stuff sounds nice enough-- but frankly there's something really menacing about it.
The dreamworld is eerily surreal -- the house, for instance, is just a Grey block in the middle of a desolate field. The folks who made the movie did a great job of making the alternate world/ongoing dream.
Every aspect of Paperhouse is fresh and beautiful. A film for all ages.
