Review of Oranges and Sunshine (2010) by Ian B — 29 Sep 2011
While heavily loaded with social rectitude and possessing an emotional kick, I didn't come out of the cinema feeling other than predictable emotions. Dare I say it, but if Hollywood did it, they would make me care more and feel less politically correct.
Emily Watson does a fair job but her character is a bit too "pat" as a caring, committed social worker. Incidentally, quite a jolt to see Hugo Weaving in an ordinary role after his antics as Neo's nemesis in "The Matrix" series.
Best moment - when a now-successful boy deportee ensures he gets a properly presented cup of tea from his former tormentors.
