Review of Oranges and Sunshine (2010) by Trev M — 15 Feb 2012
Living in Perth (where much of the film is set though not actually filmed) and originating from the UK probably brought added relevance for me but it was an interesting film that never got bogged down in melodrama (surprising given Loach's soap opera pedigree) and made me want to find out more about Margaret Humphreys and the Child Migrants Trust and the legacy of British Home Children policy.
The epilogue to the film does make it somewhat ambiguous regarding the number of children resettled to Australia (as depicted in the film) and other Commonwealth destinations and the time span over which this occurred.
Still, this does not detract from an otherwise engaging and thought-provoking film.
