LOVE this movie! Incredible in its simplicity. Even moreso in how that simplicity is the key to making this "cinema verite musical" actually work! You'd think the realistic style would make it awkward when the characters break into song but they pull it off without a hitch.
It draws you into its world and gets you invested in its characters with a style that seems almost effortless on the filmmakers' part. At certain points I even found myself wondering why I wasn't bored (there's very little 'conflict', action or cinematic flourises) but I was with the characters from beginning to end.
Great "sunday afternoon" movie! Oh yeah, and the songs... poignant, memorable, perfect. They burn right through your soul and become a part of you. The movie is a delight but the music is the magic.
