Review of Oliver Twist (2005) by Lorianne R — 04 Mar 2006
Really the sypnosis says it all. Ben Kinglsey becomes Fagin and yet I find it difficult to compare Alec Guiness' version to his - at least in terms of who is better. Maybe it's one of those great British actor things - they're all too amazing for words.
Sykes is definitely not as frightening here as he was in the musical, but the performance of Barney Clark easily makes up for the lack of that - he simply is the best Oliver I've seen ever.
Also a beautifully shot, authentic looking movie. I loved it!
