Review of Of Time and the City (2008) by Jonathan N — 02 Sep 2010
Instead of "Mr Cranky Rates the Movies", this is "Mr Cranky Makes a Movie". Davies hates pretty much everything except the Liverpool that can never be again, and Mahler. That said, the editing together of the archival footage is beautiful, as was the use of music (and no Beatles!), and Davies' narration is increasingly hypnotic.
Give it 10-15 minutes and you'll probably make it all the way through and come out strangely moved.
