Review of Nightwatching (2007) by Richard D — 01 Mar 2017
Martin Freeman stars as Rembrandt in Greenaway's film that posits that Rembrandt discovered that a murder had been concealed by the members of the militia company depicted in "The Night Watch" and that he embedded clues in the painting as an accusation.
It's an odd film that incorporates deliberate anachronisms, mainly in the way characters speak, and references back to earlier Greenaway films, mainly "The Draughtsman's Contract" and "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover".
It's also a very deliberately profane and raunchy film. If you're dying to see Freeman naked ... look no further.
