Review of Night Catches Us (2010) by Ian M — 29 Oct 2010
I liked a lot of the aspects of this movie, but it lacked a certain substance for me to really enjoy it. The acting and directing seemed on point and the themes had my attention since I saw the trailer.
My problem with the movie is that it doesn't seem to go deep enough into any of the plot elements. Her refusal to leave, the reason he was in town for a week and his family, the panther betrayal, and the cousin's growing anger.
All of these were interesting, but the movie doesn't quite give enough "meat" to any of them. Had this movie maybe been half an hour longer or been a little more focused, I can honesly say I would have loved it.
I liked the ending. And the characters were appropriate, but just weren't fleshed out enough for me.
