Review of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2010) by Riley H — 18 Sep 2009
Sort of what one might imagine from a David Lynch/Werner Herzog collaboration (though I don't know what Lynch had to do with it). I don't know what to make of Shannon, but it's not the first time Herzog has used an unusual (at face-value wooden) performance for a lead role.
By his 70s standards, this is straight-forward; though it is quirky in an almost Lynchian way that often results in laughter. Zabriskie is awesome, it's good to see her again. Dourif is hilarious.
It's not Herzog's best by any means (though I haven't seen many of his English language fiction features so I can't compare it with those) but it's interesting and I'm sure it would reward repeat viewings (as well as an understanding of Spanish).
