We saw this with our 9 year old twins , it had terrible reviews but they really wanted to see it so we went anyways. It was actually pretty enjoyable, and Danny Glover has a role in the film. Kids will love it.
Kind of a neat story. The stepdad ends up being a good guy , we both commented that was the first movie to show stepdad as a good guy and real dad as a dipship.
