Review of Milk (1999) by Kathleen P — 05 Nov 2010
As San Francisco gay rights advocate and politician Harvey Milk, Penn captures the essence of Milk, giving one of the best performances of his career. The story of Harvey Milk is definitely one to marvel at.
Struggling through a time of extreme homophobia, Milk actively fought against adversity. It was impossible not to feel inspired by Penn's portrayal of Milk. Every moment was mesmerizing, commanding attention, with amazing cinematography.
The candlelight vigil at the end was especially powerful, because through it we are able to feel one man's influence over a whole community. Penn is absolutely the heart and soul of this culturally significant film.
