LOVE! Is this the dimming of the debutante balls? The twilight of the preppies? Or simply the best American indie flick from the early 90s after Chameleon Street? A swirling sweet parfait of picante personalities.
A pouncing parade of prepped personas. And on the other side of I'll-never-know-what-it's-like-to-live-like-them, that whole universal thing that binds us all together like glu-ue. I did see this when it came out and wasn't sure how to enjoy it.
Now I can't decide which are some of the better ways to approach, from inside or out, for the journey of the characters, or to ask questions like: is Townsend America? Like Gatsby? Or is it Nick Smith? Or both? Is Von Sloneker America of the future, or the 80s? And whatever happened to Carolyn Farina? Not to worry, as soon as I finish writing this, I'm off to find out.
Then I'm going to go dig out some Jane Austen and smile some more.
