Review of Me and Orson Welles (2008) by Alex L — 11 Sep 2008
I fucking loved this! Put simply, it's a window into the onset of Welles' career. The calm before the storm, if you will. It is an unbiased portrayal of Welles' genius through the eyes of an impressionable kid, and it's spectacular. If you're a Welles fan, you will eat this up. If you're not a Welles fan, what's wrong with you?
McKay deserves all the recognition in the world for his portrayal of young Orson. It is spot-on. He is seriously a force to be reckoned with. Furthermore, the supporting cast is spectacular. Especially Zac Efron who surprised the fuck out of me.
Me & Orson Welles is funny, charming, uplifting and tragic all at once. Much like Welles himself. It is a beautifully shot tribute cinema's original rebel, made by one of today's most subversive and original filmmakers. Just excellent.
