Review of Me and Orson Welles (2008) by Norman F — 12 Dec 2009
A rights of passage movie, a theatre movie, a bio-pic etc. This is several films in one. Christian McKay is great as Orson Welles and completely steals the show. Claire Danes is lively as the 'older woman' and Zac Ephron is quietly effective as the callow youth who observes the goings on at the Mercury Theatre as Welles puts on his production of Julius Caesar.
The movie affectionately evokes the atmosphere of the theatre and the Swing Era, with Goodman and Ellington on the soundtrack. The Isle of Man makes a good fist of standing in for the Big Apple!
