Review of Man at Bath (2010) by Ross J — 17 Jul 2012
I went to this film contest & the director of this film came to explain that he wanted to explore a new way of making films, low budget, faster to produce & still accessible to the mainstream audience! The film isn't a masterpiece, far from it! Lots of people actually left the screening room before it was over.
The subject is a different from the the usual archetypes, we follow a young 'Hustler' separating from his boyfriend, and going through a series of sexual encounters with young lads from the burbs! It's raw, straight forward, disturbing at times, experimental, funny & cheesy .
The main actor, a former gay porn star is very charismatic & holds the film on his sholders. A weird object of 'art'? An ode to the male body? A look at what masculinity means nowodays? Hard to say.
.. One thing is sure, after watching this I definitely know that anyone can make a cheap film, the rest isn't much my cup of tea.
