Not like typical movies Kurosawa has made but offers many resemblance to Ikiru. About a highly respected professor dealing with retirement an that he may not have much time left. Maybe addressing his own fate.
It's the one film of his that has stuck in my head for a long time, don't know why. It's slowly becoming my favourite of his.
